Fusion5 buys Kordia’s managed IT business

Thu, 6th Nov 2025

Australasian systems integrator Fusion5 has announced the acquisition of Kordia's managed IT business in a move that both organisations say will strengthen their core focus areas. The agreement sees Fusion5 acquire Kordia's IT professional services and procurement capabilities, with 26 of Kordia's managed IT experts set to join Fusion5 at its Auckland offices.

The deal, announced on 4 November 2025, represents a continuation of Kordia's ongoing transformation. The company, which provides technology and critical communications services across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific, said the sale enables it to concentrate more closely on its core strengths in cyber security, connectivity, cloud, maritime, media, and critical communications infrastructure .

Kordia Group Chief Executive Neil Livingston said the agreement was a deliberate step to realign resources where the company could deliver the most value. "As Kordia positions itself for the future, we are making deliberate decisions to focus our energy and resources on the areas we excel in, and where we can deliver the most value," he said.

He added that the transaction was mutually beneficial. "Managed IT customers will benefit from Fusion5's passion for, and long-term growth ambitions in this area. Meanwhile, the sale will help strengthen Kordia's focus and open up greater opportunities for our core businesses and customers," Livingston said .

Livingston described the move as "a natural and positive step for both organisations and a win for both sets of customers". He said, "Kordia remains fully committed to providing maritime, media, critical communications, and secure connectivity to the markets we know best. This sale represents a significant step in our transformation, and will help ensure we can keep New Zealand businesses, and their customers, stay connected safely – now and into the future."

The strategy

Fusion5 said the acquisition aligns with its broader strategy to expand its managed service portfolio through growth and acquisition. Kristy Brown, Fusion5 Chief Executive – New Zealand, said the two organisations share a compatible approach to customer service and workplace culture.

"Kordia and Fusion5 have a tightly aligned approach to managed IT," Brown said. "We're both focused on delivering high-quality, value-added services to our customers and ensuring great outcomes. But, as importantly, our cultures are very synergistic – we genuinely care for our people, which helps ensure a successful transition".

Brown noted that the purchase builds on Fusion5's ongoing expansion in the managed services sector. "Fusion5 has been strategically building out its managed IT services business for some time, starting with the 2023 acquisition of Vigilant IT in Australia, and in 2024, the purchase of GoCloud Systems in Wellington," she said. "However, the acquisition of Kordia's managed IT practice will enable us to really scale and reimagine our managed IT services offerings locally – while also ensuring our customers can enjoy extended business support hours and services through leveraging our New Zealand and Australian presence".

The integration of Kordia's managed IT operations is expected to enhance Fusion5's local capacity and bolster its ability to deliver across both sides of the Tasman. For Kordia, the divestment provides the opportunity to redeploy its focus and investment into sectors it defines as mission-critical for its customers' safety and connectivity.

Both companies emphasised that the move is about positioning for long-term growth and value creation. For Kordia, the sale is part of a broader transformation designed to refine its portfolio. "This sale represents a significant step in our transformation," Livingston said, "and will help ensure we can keep New Zealand businesses, and their customers, stay connected safely – now and into the future" .

Fusion5, which employs more than 900 staff across Australasia, specialises in business applications, cloud, infrastructure, security, and AI. The company works with organisations to improve performance by connecting people, processes, and technology.

Meanwhile, Kordia continues to serve as one of New Zealand's key providers of critical communication and technology solutions, backed by more than 480 experts. Its services span broadcasting, cyber security, maritime communications, cloud, and critical infrastructure support.
