The HOYTS Group has introduced an upgraded and fully immersive connected cinema experience with the support of Optus, utilising the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN solution. This initiative aims to enhance the experience for the millions of visitors it receives annually.
Optus's implementation has resulted in significant improvements in network uptime and internet performance across 59 HOYTS cinemas in Australia and New Zealand. These cinemas encompass 497 screens and over 59,000 seats, ensuring a robust infrastructure to support numerous operations.
Ben Vella, Vice President of Enterprise and Mid-Market at Optus, stated, "HOYTS is a perfect example of a traditional business that has evolved and future-proofed their operations by taking a digitally led approach and backed it with the resilience of SD-WAN." He emphasised the importance of a dependable network for streamlined customer experiences such as ticket sales, in-cinema food and drink orders, and flexible payment options.
The entire digital transition at HOYTS began in 2016 and has continued to develop. All operational aspects are now supported by a quad-redundant SD-WAN solution deployed across the cinemas. Adam Wrightson, Group IT Director at HOYTS Group, said, "Optus is at the core of every dollar we make at HOYTS. In today's digital world, there is not a single interaction that HOYTS has with staff or customers that doesn't rely on Optus infrastructure."
In addition to the SD-WAN connectivity, Optus also oversaw the domiciling of data centres and a complete re-architecture of the existing network. This overhaul included dual fibre and 4G redundancy, enhancing the network's stability and security.
Mr Vella added, "HOYTS is the region's most progressive and innovative cinema exhibition company and as their trusted telecommunications partner, we have an obligation to ensure that HOYTS continues to deliver the best cinema experiences to its customers." He highlighted Optus's commitment to continued collaboration with HOYTS to provide the best solutions available.
Moreover, the HOYTS Group's advertising arm, Val Morgan, benefits from the Optus network infrastructure. Val Morgan relies on 2,500 Optus SIMs to manage and schedule content across its extensive digital out-of-home network, which spans over 10,000 screens. The Optus network is vital for the operation of various facets, including content delivery, network management, and connectivity for its audience measurement devices (AMDs). These devices provide real-time telemetry data that helps in delivering targeted, programmatic advertising content.
Using Optus IoTFlex, Val Morgan ensures the performance and reliability required while also benefitting from enhanced security measures that protect against potential digital threats. The Optus-led implementation at HOYTS has shown a significant improvement in network uptime and internet performance, driven by connection improvements and the use of redundant hardware.
