Rocket Mobile launches innovative group plans in New Zealand
Rocket Mobile has announced the introduction of group plans designed to provide New Zealand consumers with greater flexibility and savings. As New Zealand's first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) to offer unlimited mobile data plans at varying speeds, Rocket Mobile aims to challenge the existing market dominated by the three major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
James Whittome, NZ Head of Mobile at Rocket Mobile, highlighted the company's approach to mobile plans, which departs significantly from traditional offerings. "We've always done mobile a bit differently to the big boys, and group plans are no exception. Most providers only either offer discounts on the companion plans, force everyone to stick to the same plan, have them all billed on the same account and payment card, require credit checks, bundling with other utilities, the list goes on," he said.
Whittome elaborated on the benefits of the new group plans, emphasising customer convenience and choice. "We take away all of the pain by giving a discount to everyone in the group on an eligible plan, allowing customers to pick and mix their plans, and keep separate accounts. You can do it all yourself through our website, without having to call or go into a store," he explained.
According to a recent report by the Commerce Commission, 98.4% of New Zealanders remain with one of the big three MNOs, despite New Zealand having the second highest price per gigabyte for data among countries in the study. This data underscores the significant opportunity for disruption and consumer savings with the introduction of Rocket Mobile's new plans.
Whittome stated that even in the face of rising costs, consumers have the power to influence the market by exploring alternative options and switching to MVNOs like Rocket Mobile. "People should take a good hard look at their mobile bill, and check whether they're actually getting the best bang for their buck, especially when they have more than one plan with the same provider. Our new group plans make it easy to save, whether it's with your family, flat or even frenemies," he said.
The new plans are designed to allow members of a group to benefit from discounts while selecting plans that suit their individual needs. Each member maintains their own account, eliminating the need for shared billing and reducing administrative hassle. This model is intended to appeal to families, roommates, or friends looking to reduce mobile internet expenditures.
The launch of these group plans positions Rocket Mobile as a notable player in the New Zealand telecom industry, particularly among those seeking alternatives to the long-established MNOs. As the company continues to expand its presence, it provides a compelling option for consumers interested in more competitive pricing and flexibility in their mobile plans.
