STACK Infrastructure gets USD $3 billion boost for green projects

Fri, 9th Aug 2024

STACK Infrastructure has secured an additional USD $3 billion in green financing to support the development of four key projects in the United States, targeting environmentally responsible expansion. The funding will be utilised for campuses in Prince William County, Virginia; Phoenix, Arizona; and Atlanta, Georgia, which collectively total 900 megawatts (MW).

This new financing follows closely behind STACK’s recent announcements of USD $3.3 billion and USD $1.3 billion in global financing. Brian Cox, CEO of STACK Americas, stated, "Our clients prioritize minimizing environmental impacts, which parallels our mission to advance a sustainable digital future. Securing this financing is an added example of STACK's efforts to combine sustainable development with responsible growth."

The planned developments are set to include extensive sustainability measures such as zero potable water usage for cooling, the use of low-carbon materials including recycled concrete, and high-performance design features aimed at achieving optimal Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). These initiatives align with STACK’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

STACK aims to lead in sustainable digital infrastructure by minimising resource consumption and environmental footprint. "Key sustainability features include zero potable water usage for cooling, construction with low-carbon materials including recycled content in concrete, and high-performance design features for optimal Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE)," Cox elaborated.

In addition to its U.S. projects, STACK is also advancing several global developments. These include a 300MW campus in south Dallas covering 100 acres and engineered for both shell and turnkey deployments, and a 48MW data centre in Santa Clara with 12MW of turnkey capacity.

Other notable projects are a 56MW campus in Toronto on a 19-acre site featuring existing and expansion capacity, and a 200MW facility in Portland with 24MW of committed power. Additionally, STACK is developing a 48MW build-to-suit opportunity in Dallas/Fort Worth and a 58MW data centre campus in New Albany, Ohio, both offering significant power and connectivity options.

Globally, the company is also embarking on international projects including a 250MW campus in Central Phoenix featuring a dedicated on-site substation, a 72MW campus in Osaka, Japan, and a 48MW data centre in Seoul with power secured and available for pre-lease. Moreover, a 30MW data centre in Stockholm is currently under development with 18MW planned capacity.

These initiatives reflect STACK’s efforts to support the rapid growth of hyperscale and enterprise companies through scalable and geographically diverse infrastructure. The recent funding round, now totaling over USD $15 billion, underscores the company's strategy to integrate environmental responsibility within its expansionary goals.
