Contact Energy reaches 100,000 broadband customers in New Zealand
Contact Energy has announced a significant milestone in its telecommunications division: it has reached 100,000 broadband customers since the service was launched in 2017. This achievement underscores the increasing demand for connectivity among New Zealanders.
Contact Energy figures as one of the fastest-growing broadband providers in recent years. According to the company, 25% of its energy customers also subscribe to its broadband service.
"Broadband is core to our business," stated Matt Bolton, Chief Retail Officer at Contact Energy. "Connectivity is becoming almost as big a need as energy, as Kiwis' dependence on technology increases."
Bolton emphasised the importance of understanding customer needs, adding, "We work hard to understand what value we can deliver for our customers. The growth in our broadband customer numbers is testament to the competitive and reliable broadband service we provide."
Since 2019, Contact Energy has collaborated with Auckland-based wholesale internet service provider Devoli. This partnership enables Contact to provide bundled energy and broadband services to retail customers across the country. The collaboration with Devoli, which brings an advanced software platform and expert team, is credited with the rapid growth of Contact's broadband customer base. The firm's average rate of broadband connection growth is among the fastest the New Zealand market has seen.
In August 2023, Contact extended its telecommunications services by introducing Contact Mobile. The mobile plans are designed to offer value for money, allowing customers to add up to four people to a base plan for NZD $25 per month per person.
Bolton added, "At Contact, we aim to give our customers choice at a fair price, and we offer a suite of energy, broadband and mobile plans that not only make it good to be home, but are also good for the wallet."
This milestone reflects Contact Energy's successful expansion into the telecommunications sector, highlighting the growing integration of energy and connectivity services for New Zealand consumers. The company's collaboration with Devoli has played a key role in driving the rapid growth of its broadband customer base. At the same time, the recent introduction of mobile services further diversifies its offerings. As Contact Energy continues to develop its telecommunications division, it positions itself as a comprehensive provider of essential services, catering to the evolving needs of its customers.
