Genesis & Cogo launch tool to cut costs & carbon at home
Genesis has launched the Go Electric Calculator in partnership with global carbon fintech Cogo, a digital tool aimed at helping New Zealand households assess how switching to electric appliances and vehicles can reduce costs and carbon emissions.
This marks the first instance of a New Zealand energy provider collaborating with Cogo to offer an electrification solution to local households.
Features and functionality
The Go Electric Calculator provides users with personalised suggestions based on details including their property type, vehicle ownership, and current energy usage patterns. Using this information, the tool outlines potential annual savings that could be achieved by switching appliances to electric models, installing solar panels, or upgrading to an electric vehicle (EV).
Genesis customers using the tool can view indicative upfront costs for each recommended upgrade, as well as connect directly with vetted local installers and dealers to facilitate the process.
According to research from Rewiring Aotearoa, consumers in New Zealand could save as much as NZD $3,000 per year in energy costs by making the transition from older gas-powered appliances to electric alternatives, and by investing in an EV when next updating their vehicle.
Genesis' electrification focus
The launch aligns with Genesis' Gen35 strategy, which aims to support its customer base in adopting more renewable forms of energy over the coming years.
Chief Customer Officer at Genesis, Stephen England-Hall, says "We've made it our mission at Genesis to support customers to make the transition to electrifying their lives. The Go Electric Calculator is a fantastic, easy-to-use tool that quickly reveals how you can save on your overall energy bill and help the planet."
England-Hall emphasised the dual benefit of financial savings and emissions reduction, reflecting Genesis' wider push for sustainability and future-oriented customer support.
Fintech partnership and user experience
This partnership with Cogo introduces for the first time Cogo's electrification solution to the New Zealand energy market, expanding access to digital tools that streamline complex decision-making about home and transport energy use.
Cogo founder and CEO, Ben Gleisner says that "Electrifying our homes and vehicles is one of the most impactful ways New Zealanders can lower costs and reduce their carbon footprint. By working with Genesis, we're making these decisions simpler, faster and more accessible - helping households take action today while preparing for tomorrow."
The integration of Cogo's technology enables households to understand both the financial and environmental impact of different energy upgrades, providing a platform that demystifies the transition to electrification.
Availability
The Go Electric Calculator is now available to all New Zealand households through the Genesis website, offering a new resource for individuals seeking to manage rising energy costs and contribute to national emissions reduction goals.
