Motorola & One NZ launch 5G phones with satellite TXT support

Tue, 12th Aug 2025

Motorola and One New Zealand have partnered to release a range of 4G and 5G smartphones that are equipped to support satellite TXT messaging as the country prepares for the closure of its 3G mobile network later this year.

The collaboration brings four new Motorola models to the local market: the moto g56 5G, motorola edge 60 fusion, motorola edge 60 pro, and the motorola razr 60. All devices are available in stores and are designed to maintain connectivity in rural and remote regions, supported by One NZ's Satellite TXT feature when used with eligible plans.

Local focus

Praveena Raman, Head of Motorola Australia and New Zealand, stated: "Motorola devices are designed to enhance how New Zealanders live, work, and play. As New Zealand's telecom landscape evolves, Motorola is here to ensure no one is left behind. Our mission is to make meaningful innovation accessible to all."

Highlighting the local development strategy, Raman added: "With a range that combines long-lasting batteries, expert-quality cameras and seamless moto ai integration to make lives more efficient, Motorola is building phones that blend into Kiwi lifestyles. It's about delivering smart, reliable technology that empowers people to do more, wherever life takes them."

One NZ collaboration

One NZ SME & Consumer Director, Chris Fletcher, commented on the new partnership:

"At One NZ we have an ambition to become the best place to buy and own your next mobile phone, which is why I'm delighted to partner with Motorola to bring this iconic brand and innovative offering to our customers, giving them even more choice when they join us."

The latest phones are marketed as being capable of meeting the needs of users across a variety of budgets and use cases. They form part of both companies' efforts to accommodate New Zealanders upgrading in anticipation of the 3G service retirement, and those seeking robust and accessible coverage away from urban centres.

The range

The motorola razr 60 (RRP NZD $1,399) features a foldable design, a 6.9-inch internal display, a 3.6-inch external display, a 50MP main camera, and is available in Gibraltar Sea and Parfait Pink.

The motorola edge 60 pro (RRP NZD $1,299) offers a curved display, four professional-grade cameras, a 6.7-inch Super HD screen, a 6000mAh battery, and moto AI capabilities powered by advanced software. Colour options are Shadow and Sparkling Grape.

The motorola edge 60 fusion (RRP NZD $799) is focused on combining affordability and performance, with a super-bright 6.7-inch pOLED display, Pantone Validated Colours, a 5200mAh battery, and dual stereo speakers. It is available in Slipstream and Zephyr colour variants.

The moto g56 5G (RRP NZD $429) is positioned as a durable yet cost-conscious device, with a 6.7-inch FHD+ screen, Dolby Atmos sound, a 5200mAh battery, and a 50MP Sony camera system, offered in Black Oyster and Gray Mist.

All four devices support 5G networks and One NZ Satellite TXT, while including features such as AI-powered photo processing, long-life batteries, and Dolby Atmos audio. The familiar moto g05 (RRP NZD $226), which has been available since April, also rounds out the range as an entry-level choice for New Zealand users.

Supporting network transition

The partnership between Motorola and One NZ forms part of a broader transition as New Zealand's mobile providers decommission 3G services. The companies emphasise that the devices have been designed to handle the country's evolving network landscape while catering to varying lifestyle and business needs.

According to Motorola, all new devices are intended to be compatible with anticipated future developments in the sector, including rural coverage enhancements via satellite-based messaging, to ensure customers have continued access to communication services as the telecommunications environment changes.

The range is now available for purchase through One NZ channels and selected partners around the country.
