Rob Zagarella joins LoRa Alliance board to boost global IoT

Today

Rob Zagarella, Chief Executive of NNNCo, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the LoRa Alliance.

Zagarella joins the board with a background in smart grids, telecommunications, and the Internet of Things (IoT) and experience deploying LoRaWAN networks throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia-Pacific region. The appointment adds regional expertise to the board, which the Alliance has stated will be valuable as it strengthens its presence in rapidly expanding markets.

"Rob and NNNCo have supported the Alliance since its inception in 2015 as a member company, driving several initiatives and evangelising on behalf of the LoRaWAN standard across Oceania and beyond. Rob's broad LoRaWAN experience is an excellent fit for the board, as NNNCo develops and delivers the full range of LoRaWAN products and services. This background and Rob's knowledge of the broad IoT market and regional considerations will add tremendous value to our work," Alper Yegin, Chief Executive of the LoRa Alliance, commented on the appointment.

The LoRa Alliance is a global association that promotes the LoRaWAN standard for low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs) in the IoT sector. The organisation consists of companies from across the industry working together to establish and advance the use of LoRaWAN for a wide variety of IoT applications. Its board oversees the direction of technical and regulatory engagement, the development of the technology, ecosystem collaboration, and expansion into new industries.

The organisation indicated that the market for IoT communication technologies and solutions continues to expand. LoRaWAN is recognised as a dominant technology in this area, and the alliance argues that maintaining this position will require further global leadership, especially as the technology moves into additional growth sectors and seeks to accelerate technical development through collaboration.

With NNNCo operating in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the wider Asia-Pacific, the organisation stated that Zagarella's appointment is expected to enhance collaboration between the LoRa Alliance and key international markets. The board welcomed the additional technical capability and market presence that NNNCo brings through its ongoing commitments.

"It's an honor to join the LoRa Alliance Board of Directors at a time when the global momentum behind LoRaWAN is accelerating. At NNNCo, we've seen the real-world impact of deploying scalable, low-power IoT networks across sectors like utilities, cities, and infrastructure. As a long-standing member of the Alliance with operations in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and across the Asia-Pacific region, we're committed to advancing LoRaWAN as the foundation for massive IoT, driving interoperability, innovation, and market expansion. I look forward to collaborating with the Alliance to shape the next wave of growth and adoption worldwide," Rob Zagarella commented on his new role.

The LoRa Alliance stated that its membership continues to increase as its certification programme and technical specifications gain traction. The board focuses on encouraging the use of LoRaWAN for secure, carrier-grade IoT connectivity across a wide spectrum of use cases, both fixed and mobile, and emphasises interoperability and reliable device performance among its priorities.

Zagarella's tenure is expected to contribute to the Alliance's efforts in supporting larger-scale deployments and further engaging with regulators and partners as the IoT landscape evolves.
