Vonage & AWS partner to improve developer solutions & fraud protection
Mon, 19th Feb 2024

Vonage, the cloud communications specialist, has announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to fast-track the introduction of new solutions to millions of AWS developers via AWS Marketplace. This collaboration brings together Vonage's platform, communications and network APIs, and Ericsson's 5G network capabilities with AWS services. The aim is to develop solutions to enable customers to use the network to conceive innovative ideas and enhance customer experiences.

In response to the increased risk of fraudulent activity, Vonage has demonstrated its commitment to innovative network API solutions by introducing its new Fraud Protection solution on AWS Marketplace. Notable features of this service include the Vonage CAMARA-based API SIM Swap (currently in alpha), Fraud Defender enhanced through AWS AI services, and Verify and Number Insights APIs with Amazon Rekognition integration.

Vice President of AWS Industries, Kathrin Renz outlined the shared ambition between AWS and Vonage. "We have a common drive to aid customers in delivering innovation and value. By joining forces with Vonage, we are targeting the development of new industrial and enterprise applications combining 5G networks and technological innovations such as generative artificial intelligence to conceive new products and enrich the overall customer experience."

According to Omdia’s Cybersecurity Decision Maker Survey 2023, an alarming 92% of organisations encountered a security breach during the previous year. Furthermore, imposter scams in the US resulted in massive losses of $2.6 billion in 2022, as documented by the Federal Trade Commission. Such statistics underline the growing concern of fraud risk for businesses. Vonage's Fraud Protection solution, set to roll out in AWS Marketplace, is designed to address these challenges. Features such as Vonage's CAMARA-based API SIM Swap, its Fraud Defender solution powered by AWS AI, Verify and Number Insight APIs integrated with Amazon Rekognition, are designed to preemptively detect and mitigate fraud risks.

The Vonage Fraud Protection solution offers numerous key features. The API SIM Swap Network aims to enable a developer to investigate whether a phone number has recently switched SIM cards and if fraudulent activity was associated. Additionally, Vonage's improved Fraud Defender API designed to preemptively recognise fraudulent signals, Vonage Verify API provides secure silent authentication, and Vonage Number Insights API yields fraud scoring capabilities.

Niklas Heuveldop, Vonage CEO and Head of Business Area Global Communications Platform for Ericsson, stressed how the new collaboration would enhance Vonage’s offerings. "Working with AWS will enhance our capability to infuse communications and network APIs in applications and deliver new product offerings to AWS and Vonage customers. With network APIs, we are unveiling new capabilities from within the 5G network that have not been previously available, enabling current applications to be enriched with network information and stimulating the development of a new class of applications," he said.

Nick Laidlaw, Chief Technology Officer at Voicify, highlighted how the new Fraud Protection Solution, with the integration of network APIs like SIM Swap, will enhance Voicify’s security level for SMS and telephony. This enables them to ensure secure and accurate transactions, reinforcing their dedication to providing a trusted conversational AI service."
