Fastly has appointed Bruce Bennie as Area Vice President, Sales for Australia and New Zealand, putting him in charge of the company's business across both markets.

Based in Sydney, he will oversee regional operations and manage customer and partner relationships as Fastly looks to expand its presence in Australia and New Zealand.

The appointment gives Fastly a senior sales leader in a competitive market for cloud, security and content delivery services, where technology suppliers are seeking stronger footholds among large enterprises and public sector buyers.

Bennie brings more than 30 years of experience in IT sales and business management across the Australia and New Zealand technology and telecommunications market. His background spans telecommunications, financial services and the public sector, as well as advisory roles with private venture capital firms and listed companies.

Before joining Fastly, he held several leadership roles at Juniper Networks, including Regional Vice President and General Manager for Australia and New Zealand. He also worked at Infoblox and Blue Coat Systems, where he helped build teams and establish new business units.

Regional role

The appointment comes as Fastly continues to build out its operations across Asia Pacific and Japan. The company provides services in edge cloud infrastructure, application security, delivery and observability, and counts organisations including Reddit, Universal Music Group, Australian Rugby League Commission, Linktree and Trade Me among its customers.

In his new role, Bennie will lead sales efforts across the region and work with existing and prospective customers and partners. His remit also includes supporting Fastly's expansion in the local market.

He joins a competitive enterprise technology sector, where vendors are vying for spending from organisations reassessing network, application and security investments. In Australia and New Zealand, local leadership is often central to building direct customer relationships and channel partnerships.

Growth plans

Bennie said Fastly's product direction and local market opportunity were key factors in his decision to join.

"I've been genuinely impressed with Fastly's innovations and the future roadmap around edge cloud innovation, AI-ready infrastructure, application security, and a focus on delivering low-latency experiences closer to end users," said Bruce Bennie, Area Vice President, Sales, Australia and New Zealand, Fastly.

"The ANZ business has an incredible growth opportunity, and I am committed to helping our customers and partners, both new and existing, achieve transformational results while creating outstanding experiences for their own customers and employees," said Bennie.

Fastly's Asia Pacific and Japan leadership said Bennie's experience in enterprise technology and regional team management was central to the appointment.

Leadership focus

"Bruce's exceptional breadth of experience across enterprise technology and team leadership is a strong addition to Fastly's business in Australia and New Zealand. His expertise in scaling businesses, creating and executing on global strategies in the region, as well as advising IT decision makers will play a pivotal role as we expand our business, deepen our partnerships, and continue to deliver transformative outcomes for organisations. I'm delighted to welcome him to the team," said Nicola Gerber, Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan, Fastly.

The appointment underlines Fastly's focus on strengthening its leadership bench in Australia and New Zealand as it seeks a larger share of enterprise and institutional technology spending in the region.
