One New Zealand unveils sustainable office in Wynyard Quarter

Thu, 6th Nov 2025

One New Zealand has opened a new support office in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter, designed to focus on connection, innovation and sustainability.

The office, located at 30 Daldy Street, features flexible workspace arrangements across three floors, including 45 distinct meeting rooms and dedicated spaces for both collaborative work and quiet work. One New Zealand employee is also provided with social amenities, such as a central café overlooking the Auckland Harbour Bridge and a dedicated games area known as One Zone.

Jodie King, Chief People Officer at One NZ, said the new workplace represents more than just a location change:

"We're delighted to be moving into a space that reflects who we are and what we're about. This new office isn't just about location - it's about creating a place where our people can thrive and connect with each other, our customers and partners."

The workplace design, developed in consultation with Stack Interiors, emphasises flexibility, connection and employee wellbeing. The building offers various work settings, including bookable desks, touchdown points and open lounge areas, in addition to the technology-enabled meeting spaces designed for hybrid working environments.

A signature aspect of the new premises is the Network Operations Centre (NOC), responsible for monitoring One NZ's national services around the clock. The NOC is described as a futuristic command centre, inspired by the Starship Enterprise, according to input from its team. The centre is intended to support business continuity for customers, with its role becoming especially significant during events that disrupt digital infrastructure.

Māori cultural identity is integrated throughout the office. The boardroom tabletop draws inspiration from the traditional whāriki plaiting technique, connecting to the company's Māori strategy, Whārikihia. The top floor features LED lighting reflecting the night sky and the Matariki constellation, while meeting rooms and communal spaces carry names gifted by local iwi Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, such as Ngā Wai (The Waters) and Hora Nui (The Great Abundance).

The workplace aesthetic and furnishings reference the natural environment of Aotearoa New Zealand, with design elements inspired by distinctive native flora and landscapes.

Sustainability focus

One NZ's relocation to Wynyard Quarter aligns with its broader sustainability strategy. The office is targeting a 6 Green Star design rating and aiming for Platinum WELL certification, both indicators of high standards in environmentally responsible and healthy workplace design. The company expects the building's performance to reach a 5-star NABERSNZ energy efficiency rating, with efficiency improvements supported by solar panels, smart energy monitoring and rainwater harvesting.

Facilities for sustainable commuting include 197 bike parks, electric vehicle charging points, and end-of-trip amenities. Developer Mansons has undertaken to offset 120% of all construction emissions and to plant a native tree for every square metre of office space delivered.

Enhanced connections

One NZ previously operated from Auckland's North Shore, having relocated there in 2018 under the Vodafone NZ brand. With its return to central Auckland and a new identity, the company says the move is intended to enable closer links with its partners and customers, as well as create an environment that supports contemporary work styles.

Approximately 1,200 people work from the new support office. The company has adopted a flexible work policy, typically requiring employees to spend at least three days a week on site, with different teams assigned specific 'connection days'.

The new office footprint is approximately 60% of the size of the previous premises, with hot-desking arrangements being utilised to maximise the efficient use of the available space.

The new site was formally welcomed with a dawn pōwhiri and blessing, led by tangata whenua Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, marking the establishment of the new workplace at the heart of Wynyard Quarter and in proximity to many of One NZ's industry partners.
