Unison Networks reveals 10-year plan, seeks community feedback
Unison Networks has unveiled its 10-year Asset Management Plan and is actively seeking community feedback to ensure its alignment with local needs. This extensive plan is designed to manage the development, maintenance, and operation of Unison's electrical networks, catering to the evolving demands of its regional customers, communities, and businesses. The plan aims to foster growth and sustainable development over the next decade.
As New Zealand's electricity sector plays a significant role in achieving ambitious emissions reduction targets, Unison's plan reflects these goals. It also addresses regional growth, increased frequency of extreme weather events, and the need to keep network access affordable. Unison is committed to making responsible investments to deliver successful outcomes, ensuring that consumers bear minimal costs while maintaining an efficient network.
Gaganpreet Chadha, Unison's General Manager of Networks and Operations, expressed his anticipation about sharing the detailed plans with the community. "We have a lot of important work planned for the coming years as our regions continue to grow and evolve," said Chadha.
"We've carefully planned out the crucial infrastructure developments necessary based on the need to continue to decarbonise, key trends in how people's lifestyles are changing, where people will be living, and where industry is expanding across Rotorua, Taupo, and Hawkes Bay."
The plan balances sustainability, affordability, and resilience, focusing on using new technologies and data to improve operational efficiencies. A fundamental aspect of Unison's vision is to enable sustainable energy futures for its communities. This vision highlights Unison's commitment to transparency, community engagement, and empowering local communities in their journey towards a more resilient energy future.
Chadha added, "Unison is committed to keeping our communities and customers informed of what is happening on our network as we build for a more resilient energy future. A big part of that is ensuring our plans are easily accessible and more approachable for the community."
Unison invites all customers and community members to explore the 10-year plan and provide feedback through an online survey. In addition to the online resources, Unison will host community events in August to present their 10-year plans in person. These events aim to facilitate direct engagement with the community, allowing for discussions on initiatives that will shape the future of electricity distribution in the affected regions.
The upcoming community meetings will take place in three locations from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The first meeting will be held in Rotorua on August 13 at the Sir Howard Morrison Centre. The next meeting will occur in Taupo on August 14 at the Taupo Event Centre. Finally, the series will conclude with a meeting in Hastings on August 15 at Te Rae. These meetings provide an opportunity for community members to engage and discuss important local issues.
