2degrees, Bunnings team up on tradie telco, energy deals

Wed, 4th Mar 2026

2degrees has partnered with Bunnings Trade in New Zealand to give PowerPass members discounted mobile, broadband and electricity services.

Under the deal, 2degrees becomes the exclusive telco and energy partner for Bunnings Trade PowerPass, a membership programme for registered trade professionals and business owners. PowerPass combines trade pricing with business tools and third-party partner offers.

Eligible members can take up discounted 2degrees mobile plans, fixed broadband and electricity.

Members can sign up online by entering their PowerPass card number. The companies say this provides a direct sign-up process linked to verified trade membership.

For 2degrees, the agreement puts its consumer and small business products in front of a large trade audience that buys materials and services regularly. For Bunnings, it adds telecommunications and energy offers to a programme built around trade pricing and in-store support.

Trade audience

The partnership targets tradies who rely on mobile coverage and broadband for job management, quoting and payments. Electricity is another major overhead for many small firms, particularly those running workshops, storage facilities or multiple sites.

2degrees positions itself as a full-service provider across mobile, broadband and electricity. It reports mobile and internet coverage reaching 98.5% of the places New Zealanders live and work, and has expanded its presence through retail outlets nationwide.

2degrees chief executive Mark Callander said the partnership reflects the role both brands play in everyday work and home improvement. "Bunnings is at the heart of Kiwi worksites, and 2degrees is all about helping New Zealanders make the most of every connection. Together, we're backing tradies with great coverage, great deals and better ways to keep their businesses running smoothly," he said.

Bunnings Trade PowerPass is a well-established programme in New Zealand, used by customers ranging from sole traders to small and medium-sized firms buying supplies for building, maintenance, landscaping and other trades.

Bunnings has expanded PowerPass partner benefits across business services and trade support. Existing partners include accounting and business management providers Xero and MYOB, as well as PitStop and LifeCare.

Partner network

Adding 2degrees extends the partner network into telecommunications and energy-categories outside Bunnings' core retail offer but central to day-to-day operations for many trade businesses.

Bunnings New Zealand head of trade Matt Heinrich said the retailer is focused on increasing the practical value of membership. "We're always looking for ways to add value for our PowerPass members, whether that's through great deals, expert advice or connections that make life easier on the job. Partnering with 2degrees gives PowerPass members more options to stay connected, wherever work takes them," he said.

The partnership also reflects a wider trend of retailers building loyalty and membership ecosystems that go beyond product discounts. In New Zealand and Australia, trade-focused schemes often bundle access to business services, finance options and software, alongside preferential pricing on consumables and equipment.

Bunnings operates 51 locations nationwide in New Zealand, including Bunnings Warehouses, smaller-format stores and trade centres. It also runs an eCommerce offer and supply chain operation supporting both consumer and commercial purchasing.

2degrees competes in a telecommunications market that has increasingly converged across mobile and broadband, with some providers also using energy products to broaden household and business accounts. The company promotes flexibility across its plans and has invested in digital platforms for customer sign-up and service management.

With the PowerPass tie-up in place, both companies are likely to use the programme to acquire and retain small business customers in the trade sector.
